Historical Status: This site began as a family plot but converted to a church and community site and then fell into disuse after the church was discontinued. As a result this site clearly shows the transition from family to community burial practices. Likewise, it also contains some early German stones, revealing the shifts from immigrant culture to early settler to community. |
Preservation Recommendation: This site, both due to its historical and cultural importance and due to its need, demands immediate intervention. Many of the stones have fallen and the site is rapidly becoming overgrown by the surrounding treeline. The site should receive a day of supervised volunteer restoration, and a volunteer caretaker group assigned. The marker commemorating the church reports that the property was sold in 1945, however the tax records show that the burial ground property is separate from the property which surrounds it and has not been assigned a distinct parcel #. |
